Domination and Consent
When it comes to domination and consent, there’s a lot to learn for newcomers. During a session of BDSM, your safety is one of the most important things that your sexual partner should keep in mind. Nothing should ever take place that you’re uncomfortable with, whether you’re role-playing with a long-term partner or someone you’ve recently met. In order to make sure that both the submissive and dominant partner are always in control of what’s going on, a safety word is usually put in place. Once this word(s) is said out loud, both parties should stop whatever it is they’re doing and consult one another. It may be that the submissive partner isn’t entirely comfortable with what the dom is doing or they simply need to take a break.
Domination and Safety Words
It’s important to remember, that during sex, just because someone may have consented to something in the past, it doesn’t mean they can’t withdraw that consent at any point. Over time, our sexual desires will change, so things we may have enjoyed in the past, may not be the same things we enjoy today or in the future. Due to the fact that our desires can change at a moment’s notice, there should always be an open line of communication between all participating parties. The safety word you choose shouldn’t be something you could say by mistake which is why it’s best you choose something that is uncommon.
Within the BDSM community, there are two main codes that are followed by those who chose to explore this side of their sexuality.
SSC: SSC stands for safe, sane, and consensual and is used to represent the rules that should be followed during acts of BDSM. Whatever the participants engage in should be safe; everyone involved should be sane and of sound mind, and finally, everything that takes place should be consensual.
RACK: RACK, otherwise known as Risk-Aware Consensual Kink is used by those in the BDSM community ensure that all parties are aware of the risks involved with domination. Unlike SSC, the risks involved in domination and more personalized and it’s down to the participants to decide on what’s best for them.TEXT
Types of Domination
When it comes to domination, there are multitude of avenues that one could venture down. A couple can engage in acts of role-play in which one person takes on the role of the dominant and the other takes on the role of the submissive. During these sessions, they can dress up in various outfits that further enhance the roles they’ve taken on; these rules may include, teacher & student, boss & employ, or law enforcement etc. There are also acts on domination that involve sexual discipline in which one party will be forbidden from orgasming until their master has given them permission to. Needless to say, BDSM may involve acts of torture of both the physical and mental kind.
Exploring Your Kinks
While exploring your sexual fetishes can be tons of fun, your partner’s experience should always be something you keep in mind. After a session of BDSM, many couples like to check in on their partner to get a feel for their experience. Due to the nature of BDSM, it’s important to know what the likes/dislikes are of your partner so that you make adjustments for the future. Remember, sexual tastes will change over time, so knowing what your partner is into is of the utmost importance.
